Practical Test Information and Booking Options

Due to the May 12th change by the DVSA restricting driving test booking to the student alone

Our processes and website are continually being updated. If you come across  anything outdate on our site, please let us know.

The Driving Test not being in place at the start of the course, or being outside the course week, is not a valid reason, to delay commencing the course.

Our courses will continue to operate under the following booking options:

1. Book a fixed course week
Complete the majority of your course hours first, with time held back for the practical test. The practical test will then be booked and may, where possible, be brought forward to an earlier date.

2. Book your course and schedule the course week once the practical test is booked
In this option, your course schedule will be arranged to lead up to your practical test date.

By ticking the checkbox on the booking form, you confirm that you understand these booking options and that your booking will remain under the option selected.

If you select ‘Pick a dedicated course’, you cannot change to the alternative option at a later date if you then decide to wait until a practical test has been booked. The course must proceeds on the week booked.

If you select ‘Schedule your course week once practical test is booked’, you must book your practical test within 48 hours. An instructor will then be arranged to align with your test date. Once both the practical test and instructor have been confirmed, the test date cannot be brought forward.

Relationship between the company, instructor and student

All courses booked with OneWeekDrivingCourse.co.uk are arranged on the basis that the contract for the delivery of the course and its hours is between the student named on the booking form and the instructor. The instructor is a self-employed franchisee of One Week Driving Course. Any dispute, claim or discussion regarding tuition, course hours, balance payments or related matters must therefore be taken up directly with the instructor.

OneWeekDrivingCourse.co.uk will provide both the student and the instructor with a “Record of Course Hours” form. This must be completed and initialled by both the instructor and the student, with a copy retained by each. Any discussion regarding course hours must be referred to the instructor using this form. OneWeekDrivingCourse.co.uk cannot enter into any discussion regarding course hours where this form has not been completed and retained.

Payments

Payments for courses are split into a deposit and a balance payment.

The deposit is retained by OneWeekDrivingCourse.co.uk for the services we provide, including arranging the course, booking the theory test, and assigning an instructor.

The balance payment belongs in full to the self-employed instructor delivering the training. Even where the balance is transferred through OneWeekDrivingCourse.co.uk, this is done solely as agent for the instructor. We do not retain or control these funds.

Any dispute regarding the balance payment, including early payment, cancellation or refund requests, must be taken up directly with the instructor. Once funds have been passed to the instructor, we are unable to intervene or recover them, as the contract for the delivery of training is between the student and the instructor.

If a student chooses to pay the instructor before the first day of the course, this falls outside our Terms and Conditions, which state that balance payments are to be collected at pick-up on the first day of the course.

Any private arrangements made between the student and the instructor after the original course must be dealt with directly between the student and the instructor and not through OneWeekDrivingCourse.co.uk.

The company cannot be held liable for any compensation claim by either the instructor or the student, nor can it be held responsible for any traffic law violation committed by either party.

Deposit payments include, where applicable, theory test fee, booking and administration fees and are inclusive of VAT.
Balance payments are made to the individual instructors carrying out the course and do not include VAT.

OneWeekDrivingCourse.co.uk acts as an agent.

Company and Instructor Responsibilities

It’s important to understand that OneWeekDrivingCourse.co.uk and the instructors we work with are separate entities. While we handle course arrangements and test bookings, the instructor is an independent professional responsible for training delivery and vehicle availability for the test. Any concerns regarding instructor availability or refusals should be addressed directly with the instructor. We are not a test booking service; We provide a full package that includes booking the theory test, and assigning an instructor. Once this is completed, our service is fulfilled. It is the student’s responsibility to follow our procedures. We do not alter our procedures to accommodate individual preferences.

Learning or Medical Conditions

Intensive courses are, by their nature, demanding. If you suffer from any condition, including but not limited to Asperger’s, dyslexia, dyspraxia, anxiety or depression, and you feel that the condition is relevant to your ability to undertake practical driving tuition, you should carefully consider whether an intensive course is suitable for your learning needs.

Where a condition may significantly affect your ability to complete an intensive course, we would recommend that you consider not taking an intensive course. Intensive courses are demanding by nature, and you run the risk of losing course hours and the practical test if you find the course too intensive or do not reach the required test standard. Our instructors are not expected to be specialists in tuition relating to these specific conditions.

Our instructors are not specially trained to teach students with special educational needs or medical conditions, and due to the intensive nature of these courses, extra time is not built into the course structure.

It is entirely the student’s responsibility to ensure that an intensive course is suitable for their individual circumstances. Instructors reserve a substantial amount of time in their diary for these courses and, if a student later finds the course too intensive or unsuitable for their needs, no refund will be offered, as that time cannot usually be replaced.

Likewise, if a student has any medical condition, including pregnancy, which may affect their ability to complete the required daily hours of the course, it is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they are physically able to do so before booking and commencing the course. No refund will be offered in these circumstances, as the instructor will already have reserved that time.

In either case, the instructor may, at their sole discretion, agree to reduce the number of hours completed each day. However, they are under no obligation to do so, and any unused hours will be forfeit.

It remains entirely the student’s responsibility to ensure that an intensive course is appropriate for any learning difficulty, medical condition, or other circumstance that may affect their ability to complete the course successfully.

Student responsibilities

It is the student’s responsibility to notify One Week Driving Course at the time of booking of the following:

  • driving licence number
  • theory test certificate number and date passed
  • pickup address, if different from the home address
  • any unavailable dates or times
  • any special requirements
  • any medical condition
  • any condition which could affect the driving course
  • any condition which could affect the practical test
  • details of any tests already booked which may conflict with the course being booked

We are unable to specify male or female instructors due to our policy of non-discrimination. Requesting a specific gender of instructor is not a valid reason for a course not proceeding.

If you choose to commence your course in a manual car, you must complete the course in a manual car. You will not be permitted to change to an automatic vehicle once the course has commenced.

One Week Driving Course will not be held responsible if a student fails to provide relevant information which may affect the driving course or practical test. Any such information must be submitted directly to our office by email by the student. It is not the instructor’s responsibility to pass this information on.

Failure to provide your theory certificate number and date of passing, or to inform us that you have failed the theory test, or to respond to reminders, may result in delayed information on the practical test booking process. It is the student’s responsibility to provide the theory certificate number to us by email.

If you fail your theory test, or do not take it for any reason, you must attempt to book another theory test before your practical course. Please note that this will reduce the time available to secure a practical test and may mean that the test cannot take place on the final day of the course.

The practical course will still proceed, except for the final day, which may be held back until you have passed the theory test. This will be at the discretion of the instructor delivering the course.

If you do not proceed with the original course date, your deposit will be forfeit.

If the student cannot take their theory test because they do not hold the correct licence, the instructor reserves the right to proceed with the majority of the training and hold back some hours until the theory test has been taken and passed.

Any test changes must first be discussed with and approved by the instructor. If you fail to do so and this results in the instructor being unavailable, the course will proceed on the original booked dates. Failure to proceed with the course will result in the balance payment remaining due.

For Semi-Intensive courses, the theory test must be passed within four weeks of booking for the selected completion month to remain unchanged.

The student must hold a valid Category B provisional licence. If the student does not reach the required standard by the test date, the instructor may refuse use of the training car for the test, in which case the test fee will be lost. The instructor’s decision is final.

Eyesight

Your eyesight must meet the required standard. If you are unable to read a number plate from the required distance, the instructor may refuse to allow you to drive.

Whether any course hours for that week are forfeit in such circumstances will be at the instructor’s discretion, particularly where the instructor has reserved the time in their diary and the practical test fee may be lost due to late cancellation. This must be discussed directly with the instructor.

It is strongly recommended that you have your eyesight checked before beginning any course.

Additional Conditions

One Week Driving Course cannot be held responsible for bad weather causing cancellation of tests. We will try to assist with rearranging matters to suit both the student and the instructor, but delays may occur.

One Week Driving Course does not teach test routes or specific test areas. We teach students how to drive safely, recognise different situations, and deal with different types of junctions.

Availability of courses and instructors shown on the website is intended as a guide only. We reserve the right to offer alternative dates and instructors.

Our instructors may be based in a different area from the student.

Any toll charges or congestion charges must be paid by the student directly to the instructor in cash. The current London congestion charge stated on the website may be subject to change.

One Week Driving Course reserves the right to refuse a course booking for any reason.

Semi-Intensive Courses

All policies applicable to our Intensive Courses also apply to Semi-Intensive Courses, except where specifically stated otherwise below.

Course Schedule

The lesson schedule will depend on both the student’s and the instructor’s availability. Any stated completion timeframe is an estimate only and may vary.

The instructor will normally make contact during the second week after booking to arrange a suitable lesson schedule.

A strict 48-hour cancellation policy applies to all scheduled lessons. Any lesson cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice will be charged or deducted from the course hours.

Theory Test

If the student fails the theory test, it must be rebooked as soon as possible. This may affect the overall duration of the course.

The theory test must be passed within four weeks of booking for the selected completion month to remain unchanged.

Practical Test

Once the theory test has been passed, the student must provide us with the theory certificate number and book the practical test in accordance with current DVSA rules.

The practical test should normally be booked to align with the estimated course completion month where possible.

If the student does not attend the scheduled practical test, postpones it, or rearranges it in a way that disrupts the agreed lesson schedule, short notice cancellation charges may apply or hours forfeit.

All other practical test terms and conditions continue to apply.

Important Notes

Semi-Intensive Courses are designed around gradual progress over time. Students are responsible for making themselves available for lessons and tests within reasonable timescales.

Delays caused by lack of availability, failure to pass the theory test, cancelled lessons, postponed tests, or failure to provide required information may extend the overall course duration.

Gift Vouchers

Gift Vouchers must be redeemed within 12 months of the original purchase date.

Once this date has passed the voucher will be forfeit.

1.5

The pupil will be permitted to use the training car for their driving test providing the pupil has reached a safe standard of driving. Whilst every effort is made to get the pupil to test level, and to take the practical test, if it is considered by the instructor that the pupil could be a danger to themselves, the DSA examiner or to the general public, then for safety reasons, he/she will not be allowed to use the training car for the test and will be advised accordingly. The test fee will be forfeit if it is within the 10 working days notice required by the DVSA  to alter/cancel a test. The hours allocated for the test, are to be completed in this instance.

One Week Driving Course cannot be held responsible if your course is affected in the following circumstances:-

Note – If a second incident occurs then the course will be terminated with loss of all course fees.

If  you decide not to attend a driving test for any reason you will be liable for the next test fee.

If the pupil falls ill within the 10 working day test cancellation notice period, the test fee will be  forfeit and the pupil will have to pay for any subsequent test.

Due to the nature of intensive courses, if the pupil falls ill, during the course,  any remaining days may be forfeit if the pupil is unable to continue. (this subject to the discretion of the instructor, whose decision in these instances is final).

The Semi-intensive format, there is a strict 48hr cancellation period on all scheduled lessons. Any lesson cancelled with less than 48hrs will be charged/deducted from the hours.

If you choose to take a course whilst pregnant, the above paragraph also applies. If you were to find the course too tiring, or have any pregnancy related issues, you may well forfeit any course hours.         (Again at the discretion of the instructor who has possibly cleared a week of their diary for the course. The instructors decision is final).

1.7

Where the instructor may arrive late for a lesson due to circumstances beyond his/her control, the instructor will make efforts to extend the ‘finish’ time of the lesson by the same amount of time or add the time on to the following session.

If the instructor decides to terminate the course, any discussion regarding refund of the course hours and any deposit payment made, would need to be taken up with the instructor.

If the student has paid in full – we transfer the balance part of the payment to the instructor on the first day of the course. Any dispute over the balance part of any payment, would need to be taken up directly with the instructor.  OneWeekDrivingCourse.co.uk will not be held responsible for this portion of the payment.

1.8

Where the pupil fails to attend a pre-arranged course time, the instructor will wait a maximum of 30 minutes before leaving. This will be then classed as a no show for which the pupil will be liable for a no show fee which is equal to that days lesson price.
